IIPM MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE
While this infrastructural setup undoubtedly proves its importance by bringing forward new avenues to be tapped, pushing the trade numbers up for the three Asian countries, what significantly would improve if the plan fructifies is a win-win situation for the countries in diplomatic and foreign relationships. While Afghanistan does not share very cordial relationships with either of the two countries, it now urgently needs some support in Asia to be able to come out of its cocooned state after the Taliban rule. China, for that matter, will get the much needed support essential for it to quench its fuel thirst. And Pakistan’s strained relations with Afghanistan (due to Pakistan’s support to Taliban) could be well a thing of the past as this new venture could help it to come out of its negative image and make its presence felt in the Central Asia. It would be some time before the real work starts, but the signal is clear – the rail track can surely give each of them what they desire; a new bloc is developing in Asia.
