Gyrating the Gyrotonic way!

IIPM PUBLICATION
Conceptualised by Horvath, the Gyrotonic Expansion System equipment evolved over the late 80s and incorporated weighted pulleys and rotational discs, allowing for a complete range of circular motions that work all the major muscles, loosen up the joints, strengthens and tones, improves your posture, balance and flexibility. It requires complete focus and as the co-ordination between the body and mind improves, you can literally feel all the tension flow out of your system. It’s no wonder then, that after the very first session most find the Gyrotonic experience, absolutely rejuvenating!

Gyrotonic is also winning favour among those suffering from arthritis, sports injuries and back or neck troubles. Even our own master blaster Sachin Tendulkar took to Gyrotonic while recovering from his shoulder injury.

For now, the verdict is in: Gyrotonic is the new ‘it’ exercise!

Here’s how India’s first indigenously produced car packed its punch…

IIPM Best MBA INSTITUTE
When launching a new product, most marketers plan, aspire and dream of making a big splash in the consumer’s mind space. But as they say, reaching for the stars and touching them are two entirely different things. Only a few manage to make a dent and how. Take Tata Indica... the auto brand single handedly catapulted India into he crème de la crème of nations that produce automobiles indigenously. Launched in December 1998, Tata Indica created history when, within seven days of its launch, an astonishing 115,000 orders were booked by the company.

Small is beautiful

IIPM PUBLICATION
Whatever happens in India, the small car is here to stay. The small car bandwagon keeps getting piled up with newer models. Now, Toyota Kirloskar Motors and Honda Motors have both announced plans to launch their respective versions of the small car in India. While Toyota says that it plans to drive out a small car in the next 2-3 years (this is part of its strategy to grab 10 % of the Indian automobile market by 2010), Honda Motors is exploring the possibility of having its very own little car in order to expand its product portfolio in the desi marketplace. Once Tata launches its small car in the domestic mart next year, guess it will be time for another revolution.

Vikram is a great….

IIPM Best MBA INSTITUTE
In line with his engineering instincts, Vikram is a great enthusiast of Marklin train sets and simply loves to collect and setup elaborate layouts of rail tracks. He is also known to be an excellent cook and a great connoisseur of art, theatre and classical music, both western and Indian. His strong family connection is evident from the scores of photographs of the Kirloskar brothers along with their grandfather in his room. An old lathe machine also finds its resting place on a mantle in his room, which we learnt on probing, was in fact the first ever lathe machine designed and produced by the Kirloskar Group.

It was heartening to note how Vikram Kirloskar is painstakingly building the foundations of a manufacturing giant in India with integrity and dedication. This ‘manufacturing maven’ certainly has set himself up for much greater professional achievements. More importantly, his heart is in the right place...

60% support him! And the rest?

IIPM PUBLICATION
The answer is a definite no! The opposition can rave and rant all right, but Chávez and his leftist policies have definitely found acceptance in Venezuela. His anti-poverty & literacy drives, economic policies and foreign policies, all have helped Venezuela rise from a once terrible 31% inflation economy, to a steady 9.6% GDP growth wonder. Also, with Fidel Castro having virtually retired from active politics, Chávez is tipped to don the mantle of the leader of the South American Leftists. Pan-Americanism and Bolivarianism might have brought him to cross swords with the SA, but his doctrines have found vast acceptance in the Latin-American countries. But killing the American infantile presumptions are the latest pre-poll surveys that have found almost 60% support to Chávez, with Rosales coming a pathetic second with 30% votes. Bush can rest, Hugo’s the best!

The current US growth hides a distorted economic landscape

IIPM Best MBA INSTITUTE
Incidentally, whenever President Bush assertively claims or loads his speeches with his trademark ‘adjectives’, it invariably calls for a detailed scrutiny, for obvious reasons. And this time it has to do with the claims he has been propagating on the “stupendous” American recovery since 2001 under his aegis. Well, all macroeconomic indicators substantiate his claims as they go on to indicate that it has been a fourth consecutive year of economic recovery. Surprisingly, between the so called economic upswing, poverty has accentuated and household income has plummeted since 2001, with no signs of any immediate recovery.

A true-life chronicle of a sibling’s quest to immortalise his brother’s dreams...

IIPM PUBLICATION
The hunt hoists to the surface the life of a character whose expectations oft en outweighed his own self, his smouldering visions and prodigious brilliance second only to his depressive leanings and emotional foibles, and life twirling downhill even at the time of his ungodly – and sadly enough, allegorically analogous – escape from the world. Traversing through his notebooks, Dornstein unravels that in David’s den of literary fantasies lay one that depicted a scenario of a young writer perishing in a plane mishap and someone bringing him to life from the remains of his works. On board the flight, and perhaps still alive till the time he fell to his fate, David surely would have witnessed irony in bold staring him in the face, as his idiosyncratic reverie transmogrified into a lethal kiss of death. An image in the book that lingers chillingly in imagination is that of the wrecking aircraft , heaped with travellers battling frostbiting temperature, violent tornado-scale winds ruing an eternity in time for life to fl ash across in the ensuing twominute collapse to the ground.

Kinetic Has Been Posting Growth In Sales And Profits

IIPM Best MBA INSTITUTE
Over the past few years, Kinetic has been posting growth in sales and profits. Last year, the company’s total sales were Rs.147 million. Sulajja elucidates, “We have positioned Kinetic as a company that makes innovative products. We got India’s first gearless vehicle, we got India the first vehicle with a self start and we have got India (the concept of) mobile charging point on a two wheeler.” From just being a manufacturer of mopeds and scooters, it’s now offering an extensive range of vehicles in every segment. Speaking on her vision for Kinetic, Sulajja explains that Kinetic has a great legacy in terms of reputation, whether it is the company or the group. This Kinetic lady outlines her vision for the company thus: “We are trying to position Kinetic’s engineering strength in a very big way in the auto ancillary area... we have created a unit that would manufacture ancillaries not only for our requirements, but also for other firms worldwide.” She further envisions Kinetic having an auto parts business that’s as large as its two-wheeler business. “We are looking at a business of about Rs.10 billion in auto components in 5 years time,” she rejoins.

M&M’s diversification model is moving on in the right direction

IIPM PUBLICATION
The investment is in sync with its plans of launching Ingenio & Logan in utility vehicle (UV) and passenger car segment, respectively. M&M has a strategy of differentiating itself from the herd. It created its supremacy by prudently venturing into those segments in which the competition was the least like UVs and three-wheelers. At present M&M enjoys a 32% market share in tractors & 44% in UVs. But will M&M be able to successfully diversify into the already crowded passenger cars segment? Its task becomes even more knotty as global auto giants line up multimillion dollar investments.

Hutch ads have always had a great brand recall... but this time, the pug outdid itself!

IIPM MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE
Once upon a time, in Mumbai, Hutch was called Orange. Then in January this year, Hutch decided to bring Orange under its universal brand name and re-branded its whole communication, including logo, advertising, et al, in pink. Suddenly, pink was in the air... hoardings of ‘Hutch is Pink’ with cute visuals of an adorable pug with its ‘pink’ tongue hanging out, running after the brand-new triangular pink Hutch logo dotted the cityscape... & ‘pink’ Hutch was born! Everything looked the same (the pug and the field), but pink was the flavour of the season!
